When you choose a stainless steel Door Handle Hook, you want it to look great for years. Stainless steel is durable and stands up to the elements, but it still benefits from occasional care.
Outdoors it faces rain, salt and exhaust fumes. Indoors, fingerprints and cooking vapours are the main culprits. Fortunately, good maintenance takes little time.
WHY STAINLESS STEEL STILL NEEDS CARE
Stainless steel has a thin chromium oxide layer. While that layer stays intact, the metal will not rust. It can be damaged by:
- Fly rust — iron particles in the air (for example from grinding work or railway tracks)
- Salt and chlorine — coastal air, road salt or harsh cleaning products
- Abrasive polishes — limescale removers, bleach or scouring pads
HOW TO KEEP IT LOOKING GOOD
From time to time, cleaning with a cloth is enough for day-to-day maintenance. Wipe away fingerprints and dust with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Always finish with a clean, dry cloth to prevent limescale spots from tap water.
For heavier soiling, use lukewarm water with a few drops of mild soap. For stubborn staining or coastal use, treat the surface every few months with a stainless steel cleaner that leaves a protective film.
